If you are a regular user of FIFA Ultimate Team then you may have come across an non-standard or inform coloured card. The chances that it is in fact a Man of the Match (MoTM) is high. But what are they, how are they in the game and how can I own one?
Within Ultimate Team there are two kinds of Man of the Match cards:
- Man of the Match Cards (MoTM)
- International Man of the Match Cards (iMoTM)
Although there are two kinds of MoTM Cards they are exactly the same colour in FIFA 14 Ultimate Team – Green!
Here is the complete list of FUT card types:
As you can see the general order of card rarity types are: Non-Rare, Rare, Inform Card (IF), Man of the Match, Team of the Season (TOTS) and finally the Team of the Year (TOTY).
This means that it’s highly unlikely that EA decide to make a Man of the Match card that has a higher overall rating than the TOTS version of that player (if there is one). However now that it is the World Cup in 2014 there will be 2, maybe 3 iMoTM players released per day during the group stages and then 1 or 2 thereafter during the knockout stages. So like in 2010 there is a high chance that a player such as Neymar has a standout performance during the World Cup and may receive more than 1 iMoTM card like Diego Forlan and David Villa did in FUT10. In this situation, there is a slight possibility of a iMoTM card being rated higher than a TOTS or TOTY card.
How Man of the Match Cards are Awarded
First of all Man of the Match cards are considered the rarest of the ‘special’ cards as they’re only awarded for domestic cup games such as the FA Cup. And when they are awarded they’re only awarded for domestic cup finals or the Champions League Semis or Finals. After these finals, the player voted man of the match by the public in real life usually receives a MoTM card in FIFA Ultimate Team. Meaning only one player is awarded a MoTM card and not a full team. Hence why it’s rare to find these kind of cards on the transfer market.
How International Man of the Match Cards are Awarded
As you might have guessed, the iMoTM cards are awarded exactly like their MoTM counterparts except for national cup tournaments or friendlies such as the World Cup. Normally at the beginning of the footballing season there is a couple of gameweeks whereby there are no league games in the most popular leagues because their players are on national duty. When this happens EA cannot release their mandatory Team of the Week (TOTW) and instead release a Team of International Man of the Match cards.
Furthermore, when iMoTM and MoTM cards are released for cup games, they are normally out for a matter of 1-3 days. Increasing their rarity and thus causing their price to be much higher than it would be if it was a TOTW edition.
How you can own a (i) Man of the Match Player!
There are generally two ways you can own a (i)MoTM player and that is firstly (and most unlikely) pulling a player from a pack during their time of release.
TIP: During the announcement from EA that there will be a Man of the Match player in packs from ‘XX:00-XX:00’ they will most likely also announce a happy hour upon their first hour of release. A happy hour will usually double your chances of finding a Team of the Week or Man of the Match player in a pack. So when possible, buy these special packs!
The second way of owning a (i)MoTM player is to simply buy one from the transfer market. However this could be an expensive method depending on the player in question, their rarity and demand.
